We are thrilled to announce that Penlan Farm has been announced as the winner of the RSPB Telegraph Nature of Farming Award Wales 2012. This annual, national competition celebrates the work farmers across the UK are doing for wildlife.
Penlan Farm is not just the name of our range of complete moist dog food. It is an actual farm, on the outskirts of Kidwelly, which produces ingredients for the range which carries its name as well as our lovely “Welsh Meadow Hay”. For us Penlan is not just a farm, it is also a special place which aims to show that commercial farming can successfully coexist with active conservation management.
In the six years since John and Tegwen Burns purchased the land we have planted hedges, woodlands and orchards, introduced rotational farming methods, created broad field margins to provide food and habitat for insects and birds, formed water habitats, taken the first steps towards developing a dedicated Bumblebee haven … the list is endless. The best thing is that we are seeing the benefit of all this hard work as a wider variety of birds, insects, plants and mammals return to the farm.
So the next time you pick up a pouch of Penlan Farm moist food for dogs, remember that it isn’t just your dog that is benefitting from this product!
