Job Summary

General maintenance of the Parc Y Bocs grounds to ensure the site remains a valuable community resource. Provide the highest standard of customer care. A positive and fully flexible approach to work is essential to the role including weekends and additional hours as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Keep the gardens, thoroughfares, footpaths and other public areas free from litter and other hazards at all times.
  • Grow produce (vegetables, plants and other raw materials) for sale and consumption in the Farm Shop and restaurant.
  • Evaluate current and prospective customer needs; regularly liaising with the hospitality team ensuring an adequate supply of ingredients are available.
  • Maintain horticultural diversity through planting trees, flowers and shrubs, ensuring they are fed and watered at correct intervals.
  • Weed control, grass cutting, landscaping and disposing of garden waste using techniques in line with the Company’s ethical standards.
  • Harvest produce using poly-tunnels and other gardening infrastructures.
  • Quality control through inspection of produce.
  • Maintain and tend to PYB Grounds animals e.g. opening and closing pens, feeding, cleaning and any other related duties.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and reduce operating costs; advise management on the budgets, planned work etc.
  • Remain informed of the latest industry developments including new products and horticultural techniques.

Customer Service and Administration

  • Serve Burns Garden Shop customers, including supporting with telephone queries, in a courteous manner at all times.
  • Process payments securely and efficiently.
  • Use point of sale promotions to upsell products (e.g. hand tools, plant food).
  • Process orders via trade suppliers.
  • Check deliveries against purchase orders and maintain stock rotation.
  • Liasie with the Finance team regarding invoices.

Health and Safety

  • Comply with legislation and restrictions which are relevant to the role.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and hygiene within the workplace.
  • Undertake health and safety checks prior to opening the site to the public.
  • Perform basic maintenance checks on gardening equipment, ensuring all items are clean and stored scecurely. Report faults to management; maintain records of services and repairs.
  • Co-operate with our policies and procedures for Health and Safety including PPE, lone working and reporting adverse events.

You will also be required to carry out any other duties which may be reasonably required of you.


Job title:  Pet Shop Assistant.
Location: Burns Pet Nutrition Ltd, The showground, Withybush Road, Haverfordwest, SA62 4BW.
Contract: Part -time permanent employment contract.
Hours: 20 working hours per week over 5 days, between Monday and Saturday. With varied working hours. 4 hours per day.

Job Summary

Support the Retail Manager with day-to-day retail operations and to maintain consistently outstanding standard of customer service.

A fully flexible approach to work is essential to the role including weekends, additional hours and cover unforeseen circumstances as required.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Communicate the benefits of Burns products/services to customers and distribute promotional materials.
  • Process customer purchases and orders at the point of sale accounting for petty cash, refunds and receipts.
  • Deal with customer enquiries in a professional manner, referring them to our Nutritional Helpline and liaise with other departments as required.
  • Support the Retail Manager to continuously evaluate customer needs.
  • Update social media platforms regularly (training will be provided).


  • General administrative duties (e.g. stock control).
  • Support the Retail Manager with securing the premises and stock loss prevention.
  • Comply with relevant legislation and restrictions.

Health and Safety

  • Comply with relevant legislation, restrictions and risk assessments.
  • Lone Working.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping within the workplace to create a pleasant environment for staff and customers.
  • Report faulty or damaged merchandise and equipment to the Retail Manager.
  • Co-operate with Burns’ organisational policies and procedures for Health and Safety including PPE and reporting adverse events

You will also be required to carry out any other duties which may be reasonably required of you.

 Core Competencies Description Essential / Desirable to the Role
Employment Experience Previous experience in a customer service related role. Desirable.
 Knowledge and Understanding Basic knowledge of customer service techniques. Essential.
Job Specific Skills Competent to use Microsoft Office packages (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel).

A high standard of literacy and numeracy.

Full UK driving licence.

All Essential.
