Helping Hounds for Heroes

Published: Tuesday, December 20, 2011

Early last year we heard about a brand new charity which was forming to provide injured and disabled ex-service and emergency personnel with specially trained assistance dogs. We were so impressed with Hounds for Heroes vision that we hosted their official launch on our stand at Crufts and offered to help with their first intake of puppy recruits as and when they arrived.

Nearly two years later Hounds for Heroes have finally raised enough money to establish their own headquarters and training centre in Hampshire and start working with their first intake of puppies. Our Head Nutritionist, Fiona, recently visited the new centre to meet Hounds for Heroes’ centre manager and arrange for lots of lovely Canine Extra to be sent to the new recruits.

The first six puppy recruits (from left to right; Monty, Colonel, Flanders, Yomper, Juno and Red4) are all currently being fostered by experienced Puppy Parents. These kind volunteers will ensure they get the essential early experiences and training necessary for life as an assistance dog while we make sure they get the best possible nutrition.
