    Nutrition Manager

"I’ve worked at Burns since 2015 and head up a busy, dedicated team of pet nutritionists at our head office. No two days are ever the same! We spend a lot of our time helping pets to stay happy and healthy which gives me a great deal of satisfaction. When I’m not helping customers with the nutritional needs of their pets, I work on everything from exciting new product developments to quality control. As a company, we belong to the Pet Food Manufacturers Association and strive to educate the public on pet food.

I have a Masters Degree in Animal Science from Aberystwyth University and keep up to date with industry standards by attending many conferences and courses on pet nutrition. However, nothing has taught me more about dogs than the time I’ve spent with my own rescue Staffy cross called Amber.

In my spare time I’m a Zumba addict! If I could be any dog breed…I’d be a German Shepherd because they’re hard working, intelligent and mischievous."

    Nutritional Advisor

I have worked for Burns as a Nutritional Advisor since 2008, answering all types of nutrition queries by phone, e-mail and live chat as well as looking after our Burns Pet Food Facebook nutritional queries. I have a BSc (Hons) in Animal Science and over the years I’ve been to many different shows and nutritional conferences from Crufts to the American Veterinary Conference in Florida, which keeps me up to date with latest research and trends in the pet food industry. I’ve a keen interest in laboratory work which has led to testing food samples on site at the Burns Pet Nutrition HQ.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and dogs, getting out in to the countryside and going off for adventures in my camper van whenever possible.

If I could be any dog breed I’d like to be a Bearded Collie because they’re keen to get out in to the open and have fun, they’re incredibly loyal and they have beautiful hair!

  • Vicky's Qualifications

    • Canine Physiology and Anatomy Diploma Compass Education and Training
    • Canine Nutrition Certificate from Compass Education and Training
    • Canine First Aid Certificate
  • Vicky Bassett

I started in Burns in 2007 and I have worked in various areas of the company. Prior to joining the nutrition team I was out on the road as a Field Sales Representatives which has enabled me to learn about the other foods on the market. This is helpful when speaking to new customers looking to move to Burns as I often already know about the food they are currently feeding. I have been on the nutrition team for 4 years and I love helping people with their nutritional queries, being office based has also given me time to do several courses such as Canine Anatomy and Physiology.

You will often see me at shows as I love getting to go to new places and enjoy meeting members of the public to chat about their pets and give nutrition advice. I also particularly enjoy holding training sessions and giving presentations about the Burns products to other members of the Burns team as well as rescue centres and Burns stockists.

Random Fact: I am a total bookworm so in my spare time I do like to cwtch up with a book, thrillers are a favourite.

I asked my colleagues to describe me as a dog breed – Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen. They are lively, enthusiastic and curious. They also have a “good voice, freely used”!
