John reflects on another successful Crufts

Published: Wednesday, March 30, 2016

Crufts is always a great experience for me.  I’m not talking about showing dogs or even looking at show dogs; for me it’s a chance to meet and talk to pet owners who have been using Burns and to hear their experiences.  There is a lot of enthusiasm for Burns food and how it has transformed the lives of pets and their owners by helping health problems.  I never get fed up hearing about that!  The nutritionists on our Helpline come in for a great deal of praise too – the advice they give is second to none.  On a negative note, I find some pet owners, although they are happy with Burns, are not seeing as much benefit as I would like.  I think the main reasons for this are that they are feeding too much Burns or giving lots of treats which reduce the benefits of Burns.

This year again our stand hosted Support Dogs, our Charity of the Year which trains dogs to help people with physical disabilities, epilepsy alert and autism.  We also showed off our new programme Burns By Your Side which trains dogs and their volunteer handlers to go into schools and help children to develop their reading skills.  June and her dog Honey conducted a few sessions where children could read to Honey.  I didn’t expect much to happen but there was a lot of interest and excitement.

The quote of the week came from a group of three women with whom I was discussing their dogs and the feeding.  One asked about the moist food but her friend said “I’ve never been a moist person!”   I told her I would make her famous.
