Burns Real Food For Dogs
The Holistic Approach to Pet Health and Nutrition

I’ve been looking at the feedback from our E-newsletter.  Lots of compliments about our food and service (Yes, I would say that) but one complaint about me voicing my “political” opinions namely about British arms company handing out bribes in the Middle East.  The writer says that (s)he only expects to hear about dog food/ health care/pets. I realise this is dangerous ground but Burns isn’t only about pet food.  We try to espouse a range of values and ethics which goes beyond the strictly commercial.  There are plenty of companies which can sell a bag of pet food but we think there is more to Burns than that.

We went to a children’s Halloween Party at Hamish’s.  I got the job of frightening the children which I am rather good at.  We had dooking for apples which I hadn’t tried since I was about 10.  I failed to get one, as usual.

Last week one of our chickens had a very nasty eye infection.  I phoned Ian my veterinary colleague to send me some injectable antibiotic and I bought some eye ointment from the local chemist.  That cost £3 which I told the chemist was more than the hen was worth. Several days of treatment and it’s clearing up but if I were to cost my (veterinary) time this chicken will need to lay eggs until about 2030 before she gets out of debt.

On Saturday our farm had a visit from a neighbour’s Jack Russell who killed over 70 hens before I caught him in the act. I was sorely tempted to bump him off on the spot but I let him go.  He’ll get no quarter if he comes back.

The Observer didn’t print my letter about overweight pets.
