Published: Thursday, January 10, 2013

Back in March 2012, Swansea Business Life published the inaugural ranking of the top 100 businesses in South West Wales. In November this was followed up with an event to celebrate the achievements of the companies in it. The lunch event was held at the Marriott Hotel in Swansea, where a small number of special awards were issued to the companies judged to have achieved exceptional things within certain categories.

The category judges were Mike Hayden, director of corporate banking for Barclays Bank Swansea and West Wales, Ian Price, assistant director of the CBI, Tony Connell and Ian Clarke, directors of PWC, and Wyn Jenkins, editor of Swansea Bay Business Life. The event’s keynote speaker was Peter Wright, investment director of Finance Wales.

Burns Pet Nutrition was chosen as winner of the ‘Innovation in Business’ category. Awarding the prize the judges explained “In the past decade Burns Pet Nutrition has revolutionised the pet food business by creating a range of products that are better for animals.”

Accepting the award on behalf of Burns Pet Nutrition, marketing manager Steve Chilvers said “When Veterinary Surgeon John Burns developed his range of natural pet foods his objective was to improve the health and wellbeing of the nation’s pets. This award recognises twenty years of innovation and a commitment to the welfare of our dogs, cats and small furry friends.”

Burns Pet Nutrition was also highly commended in the Go Green category for its environmental and conservational work.
