We were thrilled to be invited to the Houses of Parliament on November 4th 2015, to showcase our products at the first ever Living Wage Marketplace event! Along with a selection of UK companies, we met dozens of MPs and staff to explain how businesses can be successful whilst ensuring employees are paid a fair wage.
The event, which took part during Living Wage Week, was organised by the Living Wage Foundation and the All Party Parliamentary Group on Poverty in order to engage Members of Parliament with the Living Wage.
John’s recent Living Wage Leadership award was proudly on display and he was able to tell the tale of how Burns started and his vision for offering well-paid employment opportunities to people both locally and nationally.
We were the first company in Carmarthenshire, and so far the only pet industry company, to become a Living Wage Employer. We offer an hourly rate of at least £7.85 to all employees, including apprentices. Employers choose to pay the Living Wage, which is calculated according to the basic cost of living using the ‘Minimum Income Standard’ for the UK, on a voluntary basis.
We’re very grateful to the Living Wage Foundation and the All Party Parliamentary Group on Poverty for inviting us to the event. It was a real honour to attend and we thoroughly enjoyed our day in Westminster.
