Paws for Progress is a not-for-profit organisation that works to improve the lives of dogs and humans through educational programmes and animal-assisted therapy. Working in detention centres, PFP have developed the UK's first prison-based dog training programme which has been running successfully since 2011. Inmates are taught how to train and rehabilitate rescue dogs so that they can be re-homed which ensures a happier future for the dogs. The project offers inmates the chance to improve employability skills and gain educational qualifications while building on their own confidence.
We'll be attending and speaking at the 2nd annual Paws for Progress Conference on the 14th and 15th October which is centred on the relationship between people and animals and how interactions can enhance learning and health. John and Carol will be speaking at the event along with a number of animal professionals from organisations across the country. As headline sponsors of the event, this is a cause we believe very strongly in.
We launched Burns By Your Side in 2015 to help schoolchildren enhance their literacy skills and confidence with the aid of reading dogs. The educational scheme is already flourishing in West Wales and there are plans implement it at schools across the country. Carol will be giving a presentation on the BBYS scheme at the conference.
